MyTypography installation shows my lockdown life, it's been a very difficult year for everyone. The images I have projected are influenced by the Bauhaus movement. I have created my own typography inspired by the raw geometric aesthetic of the movement. I have projected these designs onto my surroundings in my flat. I haven't left Glasgow for 8 months now and sometimes I feel my flat is a trap. My posters make more life in this flat/lockdown life. I like the harsh reality on some of the pictures, dirty plates, or the messy room. It really shows the uni and lockdown life. It also emphasizes the idea of lockdown and not being able to go into exhibitions. The images are projected onto objects like my bed… this is playing around with the idea of experiencing art in a gallery setting versus in a domestic space. It made my work seem more accessible and less intimidating than if it were being shown in an exhibition. I find this an interesting concept. I like how the colours are strong and bright when project. It makes them look almost like advertisements. I’m happy with how this worked out and it has inspired me to present my work like this in the future.
My main inspiration is a Hungarian well-known artist, László Moholy-Nagy. He was a Hungarian painter and photographer as well as a professor in the Bauhaus school. Bauhaus is famous for the geometric aesthetic and the blue, yellow, red colours. I mainly tried to use these colours and the colours that László Moholy-Nagy used in his art, grey, black, red, beige. As the structures I was creating were very simple these bright bold colours don’t distract from the form. Bauhaus and typography work together well as they both focus on structure and form. Therefore I think my project was successful.
