A Year in Review
The phrase "Just Google it" has become a part of our day to day vocabulary. We no longer see Google as the webpage but almost as a genie or a butler waiting on our every beck and call. Who's that actor? What day is it? What's 9 plus 10? And something that we often is that Google holds on to that data and uses it to improve itself.
For this project I chose to further explore my Data Vis project. I collected data from April to July as I wanted it to have a focus on what was being searched during the first lockdown. However, we ended up staying in that lockdown for months after so I thought the angle of my project could shift to be about the year as a whole. I then narrowed the data by exclusively asking four questions how to, what did, who is and where can. I then chose to give my work an almost nosey neighbour narrative as if you've getting spied on this past year by asking what have you been searching?
I used Google Trends to collect the data which is given in csv format. I then took those files into processing to build the visuals displaying the further from the centre the more popular the query. I then took those visuals into Photoshop and AfterEffects to compose them and give them context within a space.
