SEL // Short movie // Blender, After Effects
SEL is an ode to the city of Seoul. This short movie captures a journey through different parts of the city and explores new ways of contemplating and experiencing the city through the lens of a 3D glass shape. A few months ago, I found myself diving into some archive footage from that trip, it inspired me to share my experience of South Korea in a short movie and later on, expand this movie with a collection of artworks. This project being about memories and expressing nostalgia I chose to have a 4:3 format, evoking an older type of footage. The 3D shape contributes to make this journey open to multiple interpretation, purely aesthetic, emotional or nostalgic.
SEL is part of our third year project, Graphic Narratives, exploring different storytelling methods with audiovisual footages and softwares. Using Blender, After Effects and Photoshop I started to experiment with posters, photography typography and 3D and eventually created a little visual ecosystem that accompanies the movie and translate my admiration for this city. This collection of experiments explores footage movements and roughness with typography, textures and poster design. As a final goal, I would like to gather all these experiments into a small book to communicate my love and admiration for the city of Seoul.
