Blue Eyes embodies a large part of who I strive to be as an artist. Just like my journey in the arts, this project began with portrait photography. I wanted to showcase the Dunja's eyes, which have fascinated me since we were kids alongside our shared love of the pop art movement and techno music. The blocks overlapping the photograph remind me of the lights at a rave, but more than that they represent how I imagine Dunja's personality would look like if it manifested visually - colourful and electrifying.
Even though Blue Eyes is far from my comfort zone in terms of the amount of colour and detailing, I believe it has allowed me to open up to the possibility of incorporating more of them into future works. I wanted to show this piece as a tribute to our friendship and Dunja herself, but ended up learning about and developing my art style more than I had originally suspected I would.
I would like to thank Dunja Dervišbegović for being my muse and allowing me to showcase her uniqueness through my work, as well as Yuheng Gong for enhancing my piece enormously by giving me permission to use his music.
