Pulse
My work asks a Question: Humans, Living creatures, Machines--Can we rely on each other with harmonious coexistence? From the perspective of perception, my work simply controls the various aspects of light, an essential element for the survival of plants, through pulse detection. The human pulse rate is detected by the pulse sensor, traveling as electric current, and finally signals light changing. It’s like a dialogue between humans and plants, with electronic circuit devices instead of words.
Visually, I was very inspired by James Turrell, who’s well known for his use of light and shadow. I especially liked how he uses the colour of the sky to make site-specific artworks. Drawing inspirations from his works, I tried to play with saturated colours and simple geometric shapes for the first time by projecting them on the wall.
